Vacations are wonderful events to look forward to. They can also be stressors for intermittent fasters.
My vacations tips which I have learned over the past three years:
Clean fast as long as you can. Eat when YOU want to, not when it feels like an obligation. Plan your treats. “Eat the treats” without guilt. Enjoy local flavors and remain flexible with your window. On vacation, I plan at least a 20 hour fast. In the remaining four hours, I enjoy what I want. Guess what? What I want remains healthy and rich in nutrients. My brain no longer craves junk food.
We just returned from Vermont where I fasted 20 hours each day. In my window, I indulged with a small ice cream, a piece of almond brittle, and an apple cider donut (which was an utter disappointment by the way). While I was fasted, I kept active, sipped sparkling water and black coffee. The large hotel breakfast was not something that I deemed to be window worthy. I planned the treats and when we returned home, I looked forward to fasting again and depleting those built-up glycogen stores fast.
Have the cake and eat it too…..but jump back onto the fasting train quickly. May the vacation fast be with you.
