Insulin resistance is when insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas, does not allow cells to open to receive the glucose from our food for energy. Over time, blood sugar levels climb because the cells develop a resistance to insulin.
Insulin resistance is often not diagnosed. Insulin resistance adds to the risk of developing prediabetes, and type 2 diabetes.
